Overview
Shift is the design system powering a suite of 6 B2B SaaS products. Before Shift, each product had drifted into its own visual dialect ??? a maintenance nightmare for 3 design teams and 2 engineering squads.
Process
We audited 4 300 unique UI elements across the product suite, then reduced them to a token-driven set of 100 components in 3 tiers: Core, Pattern, and Template.
Outcome
New feature design time fell by 55%. Cross-product visual consistency score (measured via a blind survey of 40 stakeholders) rose from 3.1 to 4.6 out of 5.
